Marin Cilic Follows Andy Murray Out The Door, Sent Packing By Montanes

Spaniard Albert Montanes has sent 4th seed Marin Cilic tumbling out of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 event. Cilic discovered just how dangerous all Spaniards are on red clay losing in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 and following fellow seed Andy Murray back to the airport.

It took just 1 hour and 37 minutes for the Spaniard to record his fourth win ever over a top ten player. The in form Montanes took down Marcos Baghdatis and Andreas Seppi on his way into today’s match and as it stands there are 6 Spaniards left in the draw: Albert Montanes, Juan Carlos Ferrero, David Ferrer, Tommy Robredo, Fernando Verdasco and Rafael Nadal. Fellow Spaniards Feliciano Lopez and Nico Almagro have already been eliminated from the draw.

Montanes will face the winner of Berdych/Verdasco (which at this moment looks like it will be Verdasco) in the quarterfinals. Verdasco has beaten him on all 3 of their previous meetings.
