Martina Navratilova has warned women around the about being vigilant about getting regular cancer check ups including mamograms saying she’d let it slip, and that it had being 4 years since her last one. Martina has the more agressive (level 3) DCIS tumor cell type and as a result will have 6 weeks of radiation treatment in Paris where she hopes to also commentate for the Roland Garros tournament if she’s able.
She also discussed the issue as part of her role in health promotion on http://www.aarp.org/ws/MartinaChat/ you can see some of it below.

Dr. Julie Silver:
Radiation therapy often causes intense fatigue. Exercise is one of the best ways to combat this. Also, try cognitive behavioral therapies such as meditation. |

Martina Navratilova:
Chris – thank you so much -I love that hug. My tennis friend Jim Courier sent me a sweet email yesterday saying he felt sorry for the Cancer because I was going to kick its ass. I said thank you so much Jim. Don’t feel sorry for the Cancer –but yes I will kick its ass. |

>Amazing that she went 4 years without a mammogram, hope it helps other women around her age realise how important they are. Good luck to her with the radiation
>I hope so too… I wasn't even 25 when I discovered you can't be too careful it can find you at any time and at any age.On the plus side by changing her mind and deciding to talk about it she is bringing more awareness to an issue that is really important in women's health. If it helps one woman find her cancer earlier than she otherwise would have then that's a great thing.
