“I wanted to say goodbye at some of the big tournaments, the grand slams, but that dream wasn’t to be. I am still young for life but for sport I am already knocking on a bit. I wanted to play the big tournaments and say goodbye but I got to the Madrid tournament and I still wasn’t 100%,” Moya said. I realised with that match that the moment had arrived.

It’s not how I dreamed of ending my career.I’ll keep on with my gym in Mallorca. I have a sports business and I’ll dedicate more time to my wife, my daughter and my family. But I’ll definitely miss tennis.”
Moya has travelled with Rafa Nadal and partner Carolina to London where he will say goodbye to tennis at a farewell ceremony at the year end finals. Moya will then complete his career with a tournament in Seville in December.
Players who have retired in the last few weeks include Elena Dementieva, Taylor Dent and now Moya.
