Breaking Rafa’s Heart

This morning I have woken up to some footage that Darren Cahill and Brad Gilbert posted on Twitter. The first one is called The Wait. The Wait is about how the imposing Rafael Nadal makes everybody wait for him. The rules simply don’t apply.

The second video, Losing Hurts, is actually a very sad look behind the scenes when Rafa was injured in his match against David Ferrer in this years Australian Open quarterfinal.  The Spanaird, clearly broken hearted moves around away from the watchful eye of his fans through the empty corridors in Melboure looking miserable. You can see the hurt on his face in a way we haven’t see it. You also see Rafa limp up the stairs at the end – a sign of weakness you don’t often see when he knows you’re watching.

  1. I think its interesting that you interpreted the video titled “the wait” as Rafa making everyone wait for him. I think it was literally about “the wait” before the players get on court. Nothing in the video conveyed that everyone has to always wait for Rafa. Not saying it isn’t the case, but the video wasn’t about that.

    • Interpret it however you like. I just like the videos and remember a lot of that footage from when I was in Melbourne and they were talking about how everyone waits from Rafa and then he bounces around in the background. Then they wait for him again at the net and he again bounces around… gamesmanship ;)
When we were at the Nadal V Tomic match Tomic was waiting for ages for Rafa and maybe take a little look at who both players are waiting for because both of them are ready to go.
