Ferrer Finalist In Barcelona, Faces Nadal Again

David Ferrer continues his great run of form this season by progressing to the Barcelona finals where he will play Rafael Nadal, again, for the title. Ferrer had a more difficult semi than his opponent who had to battle past Nicolas Almagro, eventually winning 6-3, 6-4. Nico has also had a great season and as a result of his results in Barcelona will break into the top ten for the first time in his career.

This will be Ferrer’s third final at the Barcelona tournament – he has never won the tournament.

Ferrer will be working hard on his recovery before Sunday’s final after feeling some pain in his calf during his match with Almagro after two grueling weeks on the clay courts. He explained to the media that the scoreline of the match didn’t reflect the true difficulty of the match. “It was a tough win physically. It was only two sets but they were hard-fought. I was lucky to play my best in the important moments.

I’m very happy to be in the final, this is a very important tournament for me. I had to play well to get past Nico. I’m hoping to still feel fully fit for the final.

The calf felt OK but I could feel it as the match progressed. But I can recover for Sunday.”
