Mardy Fish wanted to use the tournaments leading up to the US Open to try and comfortably secure himself a position in the top ten rankings and he has done so by securing a finals position after defeating Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 6-4 in the Rogers Cup semi final. The bad news for Fish is that his opponent is Novak Djokovic – a man who has lost one match all season and is looking to become the first man to win five Masters 1000 titles in a year.
Djokovic has worked himself back into brilliant, relentless form during the Rogers Cup in order to work his way into his ninth final of the year.
Once Federer, Nadal and Murray had all crashed out in the early rounds you had to believe that no one would stand in the way of the man who has eight titles under his belt for this season so far. While Fish wont roll over and play dead he’s got little chance of winning while Djokovic continues his steam rolling efforts.
“It’s a dream come true,. I desperately wanted to go into the Us Open in the Top 10. I’m not sure where this puts me now or if it moves me at all. At least it gives me a little cushion against some of the guys that are coming up.” – Mardy Fish
