Novak Djokovic had to overcome Alex Dolgopolov and gusty conditions at Flushing Meadows to book his place in the US Open quarterfinals. Nole was also forced to take the first set in an epic tie break that ended at 16-14 after almost 30 minutes.
Dolgopolov had his chances to claim the tie break at 6-5 and 7-6 after taking an early lead in the tiebreak but the defenses of the Serbian world number one were too strong.
Th windy conditions didn’t stop Dolgopolov from playing his great varied game that carried him to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open this year but after the epic first set Djokovic adapted to the conditions and moved comfortably into the next round.
Nole will face compatriot Janko Tipsarevic in the quarters.
