Ivanovic Ends American Wildcard Run

18 year old Sloane Stephens’ run at the US Open has been ended by Serbian former world number one Ana Ivanovic. The 6-3, 6-4 win puts Ivanovic into the fourth round where she faces the formidable Serena Williams who thumped Victoria Azarenka in the first set of her straight sets win over the wold number five.

Ivanovic, at times, looked good. Not Grand Slam winning good, but Ana good. There weren’t too many muffed ball tosses (until she tried to serve the match out) and she seemed to have her emotions in check. Ana managed Sloane’s home crowd well and produced some great shots but still has a way to go if she wants to really compete with the likes of Williams again.

To her credit Sloane tried her best to stay with Ivanovic but struggled to hold serve , committing 6 double faults.

In other news floating around Flushing Meadows  it would appear that Serena Williams wont play any more doubles due to the health issues of her sister, and doubles partner, Venus.
