icolas Mahut has added his name to the mounting list of injured player who’ve been forced to retire after he halted his second as he trailed defending champion Rafael Nadal 2-6, 2-6.
When Mahut was attended to by the trainer he had a stomach strain treated with massage.
While Nadal may have liked to hit a few more balls the Spaniard was simply happy to move into the third round.
“I prefer to be in the third round. I spent a long time on court in the first round. For sure it’s not nice to win like this, but that’s sport sometimes.
I think I did a few things much better than in the first match. I tried to to play with my strategy, tried to have the control of the point with my forehand, tried to play a little bit more aggressive when I had the chance, and I think I did.”
Rafa now faces Argentinian David Nalbandian
