Tomic Struggles To Back Up Wimbledon Performance

Bernard Tomic’s attempt to continue this seasons Grand Slam successes has come to an abrupt and disappointing halt. Tomic bowed out with little fight to Marin Cilic 6-1, 6-0, 6-2.

The match had potential with Tomic and Cilic battling each other in a five set match at the 2010 Australian Open which resulted in Tomic being heavily criticized for complaining about the night time scheduling. In this match up Cilic simply outplayed the young Australian who has been rocketing up the rankings.

Physically Tomic seemed to be having issues from the beginning of the match. Tomic took bathroom breaks between sets and called the trainer as he trailed 0-3 in the second set and was given tablets after complaining of a lack of energy.

The normally intelligent, varied game was no match for Cilic who showed no mercy as he crushed the youngster. After the match Tomic didn’t provide any significant insight into what was bothering him, instead saying he was overwhelmed by Cilic.

Tomic’s controversial father recently said that Team Tomic were deliberately restricting how many tournaments Bernard plays until he has fully grown into his body to prevent early overuse injuries.

Cilic now faces Roger Federer in the third round.
