Juan Monaco Finds Form On His Birthday And Thumps Fish

Juan Monaco has had a memorable 28th birthday beating troubled world number 8 Mardy Fish 6-1, 6-3 making his second Masters 1000 semi final.

Fish who has struggled with the state of his game (and head space) since the Hopman Cup didn’t stand a chance against the blistering Argentine underdog. Monaco served impressively, winning 71% of his first serve points, closing out the match in just 82 minutes.

At the time of writing it looks like Monaco will face Novak Djokovic in the semi finals as the Serb comfortable leads David Ferrer 6-2, 1-0.

“I can’t believe it. I have a lot of emotions it is good to celebrate this way, playing unbelievable tennis on my birthday.

Every shot I wanted to play I did. It was a perfect match for me. I returned well and then I served very, very good.”

“It was unbelievable. I think the way to celebrate my birthday, playing like this like I did today, I feel proud and very happy be here on my birthday.”
