Without seeing footage of all the ‘offending’ serves it’s hard to know for sure what happened but it seems absolutely absurd that a man who makes his money from his serve would make that many errors.
After the match an angry Ivo said, “I feel cheated. It was outrageous, outrageous. It’s Wimbledon, Centre Court, and they do this.
In my whole life, ever since I was eight years old, I didn’t do this many foot faults. They were never called when it was like 30-0 or 40-0. It was always when it was 30-30 or in a tie-break. I mean, what is this? Is it Davis Cup or is it Wimbledon? After this match, the whole credibility of this tournament went down for me.
I thought I would stand back a little from the line so they could not call, but they still did it. It was outrageous.“
To be fair if Ivo didn’t commit the foot faults you can’t blame him for being outraged. In a match this tight up the points could have won him the match and with the UK so desperate to have a home grown champion it does seem suspicious.
Also suspicious is that we never got to see any slow motion replay of the apparent foot faults. Interesting.
If Murray does win Wimbledon now it will always be tainted by what looks an awful lot like match fixing (which I’m not accusing Murray of orchestrating).
Murray’s view? “If he wasn’t foot faulting then he has a right to be upset, because there was a lot of them. But if he was, then you can’t do it. It’s not allowed.”
