Berdych Takes Tsonga Out In London

Tomas Berdych’s 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 win over Jo Wilfried Tsonga at the Barclay’s World Tour Finals means that the semi final placings for Group A in the round robin will come down to mathematics.

Jo must now play Andy Murray who lost to Novak Djokovic in three set. Tomas must play Novak. Given the tight scorelines of the matches the outcome is not  straightforward.

Tomas is not thrilled with the complexities of Group A’s qualifications, saying instead he plans to simply play his best tennis without worrying about the maths. “I don’t like mathematics at all. I will try to play tennis, and that’s it. I will try my best. But Novak just shown how great he’s playing right now and that he deserve to be No. 1 player in the world. It’s a huge challenge for me. But the other hand, he already has two wins, so let’s see what’s going to be in that last match.”

Tomas still has a chance to qualify for the semi finals but unfortunately for him his chances are not entirely within his control. Tomas needs Tsonga to beat Murray to qualify.
