Jerzy Janowicz, the Polish qualifier who beat Andy Murray, has done it again. This time the in form player, ranked 69th in the world, took out Serbian Janko Tipsarevic who recently qualified for the year end Tour Finals.
Tipsarevic was forced to retire with illness with his opponent leading 3-6, 6-1, 4-1. It is now up to Gilles Simon to try and stop him in the semi finals in Paris.
The Frenchman rose to the occasion in front of his home crowd, taking out Tomas Berdych 6-4, 6-4.
“In the second and third set I just played the best tennis of my life. I didn’t know actually I can play that good. It’s really not easy for me to realise what is going on in my life right now. Right now I’m playing the best tennis of my life, and I hope tomorrow I can play even better. I don’t know what I should expect from myself, but I hope I will not finish tomorrow this tournament yet.” – Jerzy Janowicz
