>Robredo And Simon Make Promising Starts

>After a few weeks of disapointing results Spaniard Tommy Robredo has made a winning start in Bastad against Michal Przysiezny 7-6, 6-3 for a spot in the second round. After some initial rain delays Tommy claimed the match in just 80 minutes. Robredo will now face Andrey Golubev for a place in the quarterfinals.

Robredo has won the Bastad title twice previously and is looking to collect his third. Robredo, who currently sits at number 27 in the world rankings, last claimed a title in February 2009

Meanwhile in Stuttgart Gilles Simon claimed his fifth win of the season defeating Dustin Brown 6-3, 3-6, 7-6. The results comes after Simon defeated Almagro in a dead Davis Cup rubber in straight sets. Simon has struggled to be fit to play at all since the US Open last year with ongoing knee injuries.

>What Happened Today?

>- Kim Clijsters and daughter Jada’s tender moments at the US Open in 2009 have been immortalised in a Barbie. There is a Clijsters Barbie holding her trophy and a little Jada Barbie holding a tennis racquet. She is now the first athlete to have a Barbie likeness made. One can only wonder if they make a Nadal Barbie if they will make its left arm significantly bigger than the right in order to be anatomically correct.

- Spaniard Feliciano Lopez has continued his good start to the season (compared to last year when he struggled to win 2 matches in a row) and is now through to the SA Open quarterfinals after beating Blaz Kavic 6-2, 7-6.

Lopez will now face Rajeev Ram in the quarterfinals.

- Also through to the quarterfinals is Dustin Brown of Jamaica. He is the first Jamaican to reach a quarterfinal since 1989. He played an aggressive serve and volley style tennis on an awkwardly empty side court yesterday

- Serena Williams has also hit the media circuit in the States visiting Jimmy Kimmel and the Ellen Show on the same day.
