Fatigued Bartoli Falls To Lisicki

In a match that was overwhelmed by the elements, an exhausted Marion Bartoli was beaten by Sabine Lisicki 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 for a place in the semi finals at Wimbledon where she will play Maria Sharapova.

After trading opening breaks Lisicki broke against for a 3-1 lead as the thunder cracked so loudly the Lisicki actually ducked. The storm outside was so loud that the players had trouble hearing the sound of the shots off the racket which is a huge component of playing tennis. Read more »

Mattek-Sands Stuns At Wimbledon WTA Players Party

We knew Bethanie Mattek-Sands was planning some sort of tennis ball meets Lady Gaga inspired dress but we weren’t sure when it was going to appear. Bethanie has stunned, and not in a good way, the tennis community at the pre-Wimbledon party overnight. The American recently played at Roland Garros with war stripes painted under her eyes.

Other more fashion friendly players such as Maria Sharapova looked fabulous on the night. Meanwhile Serena Williams’ appearance at the players party fueled speculation that the American superstar has undergone plastic surgery during her year long injury time out.

Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic may have looked better, and Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova may have had the most horrendous tan lines on display, but Mattek-Sands was definitely the undisputed worst dressed for the evening (and probably forever) Read more »

Impressive Sharapova Into Semifinal

Maria Sharapova, far from a clay court goddess, handed out a thumping clay court lesson to Andrea Petkovic. The German youngster had nothing to dance about after Sharapova, who is looking to complete a career Grand Slam this year, trounced her 6-0 in the first set in just 32 minutes. Sharapova was clearly not messing about, relentlessly thumping her shots and teaching the (at times) cocky young Petkovic what champions are made of. Read more »

While clay is Sharapova’s least preferred surface she’s aiming to complete a career Grand Slam by claiming the French Open and also claim her first Grand Slam since return to the tour after having shoulder surgery.

Over time we’ve had some pretty good looking tennis players to watch on our screen, both male and female. Sure in the 80′s there were some good looking players we may not have noticed because they had the fluffy hair, scary eyebrows and strange fashion sense but some things get better with age (think GeorgeĀ  Clooney).

Sharapova Shows Stosur Up

Maria Sharapova will freely admit that her movement on clay leaves a bit to be desired, Sam Stosur, on the other hand, has consistently produced good results on the red dirt in the previous two seasons and yet it was Sharapova who took the Rome title, thumping the Australian 6-2, 6-4. This year Stosur has struggled with her confidence and belief that she deserves a top ten ranking. Her confidence has been handed another blow with her defeat overnight. Read more »

Azarenka Drops The F-Bomb

Regardless of how Victoria Azarenka tries to explain her meltdown in Rome it doesn’t look good. In the last six tournaments she has played she has either made it to the final 50% of the time or retired the other 50% of the time. Since 2010 she has had ten retirements. Clearly she has some physical issues she needs to get on top of and then fix before returning and retiring again. Read more »
