Marion Bartoli Returns To Wimbledon

Last year Marion Bartoli finally won the trophy she had dreamed about in London. Since winning Wimbledon she has retired and quickly become involved in commentary work, particularly during the French Open.

It was an emotional Marion, who still has difficulty lifting her arms up in the morning, who returned to center court as she enjoys the last moments of being the current Wimbledon Champion.

Bartoli was accompanied on to the court by Elle Robus-Miller – a young player from the Elena Baltacha Academy of Tennis. Elena Baltacha was just 30 years old when she passed away this May after a fight with liver cancer and Marion is one of the many players who have lent their support to Rally4Bally. Read more »

Czech Republic Win Hopman Cup

Tournament favourites and top seeds Tomas Berdych and Petra Kvitova for the Czech Republic have won the diamond encrusted balls at the Hopman Cup in Perth defeating the French team of Marion Bartoli and Richard Gasquet 2-0.

Unbeaten world number two Petra Kvitova seemed unhindered by and back niggles she had had the previous day when she had clutched at her left lower back before losing the thoracic rotation in her shots. Petra had struggled with her serve, appearing to be dragged down by her poor posture on the right thorax for a good portion of the third set against Caroline Wozniacki. Read more »

Gajdosova In Tears As Australia Thumped By France At Hopman Cup

Jarmila Gajdosova left the center court at the Burswood Dome absolutely devastated yesterday after she was handled by Marion Bartoli 6-0 6-0 in just 52 minutes.

For some time behind the scenes Jarmila was quite upset, her disapointment with her result not helped by a group of roudy fans that booed her once and cheered her every mistake.

Jarmila has had some issues being accepted by the Australian crowd since her divorce from Sam Groth and has been subject to significant online abuse – this incident clearly not helping. Read more »

Li Na – Back In The Swing Of Things

“I’m back.” Ominious word from French Open champion Li Na who overcame some early nerves, lacking confidence and a dodgey first service percentage to come back and beat Marion Bartoli 2-6 6-2 6-4.

Bartoli had looked in control of the match, a more athletic figure that in recent years, but still the same intensity that she brought to the second half of last season. Bartoli was crushing Li’s second serve and when China’s most famous female tennis player took some pace off her first serve just to get one in Bartoli stepped in and crushed them too. Read more »

Serena Williams Wins First Comeback Title

Serena Williams has officially announced her return to the top of tennis by comfortably taking the title at West Classic in Stanford by beating Marion Bartoli 7-5, 6-1. Throughout the tournament Serena looked dominant and in good shape leading up to the US Open. Williams is now a firm favourite at her home Grand Slam.

Along her road to victory Serena pummeled Maria Sharapova, Sabine Lisicki and Marion Bartoli all in straight sets despite entering the tournament as worl number 169 due to her extensive injury time out. Read more »

Fatigued Bartoli Falls To Lisicki

In a match that was overwhelmed by the elements, an exhausted Marion Bartoli was beaten by Sabine Lisicki 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 for a place in the semi finals at Wimbledon where she will play Maria Sharapova.

After trading opening breaks Lisicki broke against for a 3-1 lead as the thunder cracked so loudly the Lisicki actually ducked. The storm outside was so loud that the players had trouble hearing the sound of the shots off the racket which is a huge component of playing tennis. Read more »

It was a quieter than usual Serena Williams who took on a very intense Marion Bartoli today. Bartoli stayed focused and extremely determined throughout the match, chasing down everything despite having some marathon matches in earlier rounds. Schiavone Prepares For Title Defense

Francesca Schiavone has battled her way to her second consecutive French Open final and secured the chance to defend her only Grand Slam.

Her opponent in the semis, Marion Bartoli, was fighting for French pride in the windy conditions but it was Francesca’s variety of play that brought Bartoli undone. Schiavone drew first blood and took a 5-3 lead in the first set before serving the set out. Read more »
