Robson Battles Kvitova To The End

Laura Robson has defeated former Wimbledon Champion and 8th seed Petra Kvitova 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 in a match that wasn’t always pretty but was entertaining right to the very end. An end which came at 12.30 am after a three hour match.

Both players struck the ball beautifully at times but the errors mounted for both players, particularly on Kvitova’s serve. Robson his 25 winners to 51 unforced errors and counted 12 double faults to her name by the end of the match. For her part Petra has 42 winners, 41 unforced errors and a colossal 18 double faults. Kvitova Struggling With Back Problems

Defending champion Petra Kvitova has revealed she’s been struggling with back pain over the last 10 days.

“I think it will be all right tomorrow. I have just stiff back, so I hope it will be all right.

I play from the beginning and I knew what I have to play. I have good tactics plans. Yeah, it seems very easy from the beginning, but some games was really close. I try to win the big points. Read more »

Body Watch: Clijsters, Williams And Wozniacki

With the three of the five most powerful and most likely to win the Australian Open in the WTA suffering injuries recently Li Na and Petra Kvitova as the only ones in cruise control. Serena Williams appears to have recovered from a ankle sprain in Perth and is flaunting her ripped body during Rod Laver Arena practice sessions. Kim Clijsters insists her hip is better but she has struggled so much in the last 12 months with injury issues that the defending champ is still under a cloud of doubt.

That leaves Caroline Wozniacki who is clinging to her number one spot as the only one without a Grand Slam and the one in the biggest doubt. Read more »

Czech Republic Win Hopman Cup

Tournament favourites and top seeds Tomas Berdych and Petra Kvitova for the Czech Republic have won the diamond encrusted balls at the Hopman Cup in Perth defeating the French team of Marion Bartoli and Richard Gasquet 2-0.

Unbeaten world number two Petra Kvitova seemed unhindered by and back niggles she had had the previous day when she had clutched at her left lower back before losing the thoracic rotation in her shots. Petra had struggled with her serve, appearing to be dragged down by her poor posture on the right thorax for a good portion of the third set against Caroline Wozniacki. Read more »

Kvitova Claims WTA Championship

Petra Kvitova has won the second most important title of her career, defeating Victoria Azarenka in the WTA year ending championship 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. In the almost two and a half hour match Kvitova used her powerful serve and flat hitting to come out on top of the number four seed. Read more »

It‘s amazing what can happen to a player after they win their first Grand Slam. Novak Djokovic took a while to get going again, Ana Ivanovic completely lost her way, Petra Kvitova has struggled to maintain her level and it seems Li Na has totally lost confidence in her ability.

Meanwhile, delighted champion Novak took long term girlfriend Jelena Ristic to the champion’s ball where they mingled with the ladies winner Petra Kvitova.
