Matosevic Stuns Cilic

Marinko Matosevic has defeated 2012 winner and 2013 Queens Club runner up Marin Cilic in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Marinko is currently ranked at number 60 and is coached by doubles legend Mark Woodforde. Marinko stated after the match that is was Woodforde who encouraged him to play aggressively and include serve and volley play in his game. Read more »

Lleyton Hewitt Wins Queens Opener

Lleyton Hewitt has won his opening match at the Aegon Championships with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Daniel Gimeno-Traver in just 69 minutes. The appearance marked Lleytons 15th Queen’s participation and his wife Bec was in the stands supporting her man.

It will be interesting to see how Hewitt goes as he talked, as he has many times in recent years, about how well he’s striking the ball. Unfortunately for Lleyton he has an extensive injury history and age against him in an increasingly power based game. Read more »

Nalbandian Defaults In Queens Final After Injuring Court Official

As per ATP rules David Nalbandian defaulted during his Queens finals match against Marin Cilic after he kicked an advertisement sign at the feet of the lines person injuring the official. Nalbandian was clearly not taking his rage out on the lines person but the target of his rage – the sign – was so close to the man that his shin was left bleeding. Read more »

Xisca Perello London Bound

Rafael Nadal’s girlfriend of 6 years is moving to London to study business management and English. The 23 year old Mallorcan who has previously studied business administration in Palma de Mallorca.

The beautiful Spaniard who rarely comments to media has reportedly said, “Rafael and I will be seeing less of each other from now on.” Despite the obvious issues of a long distance relationship Nadal and Perello seem to thrive. In Nadal’s new book RAFA, Xisca was quoted saying “If I followed him everywhere, I think there’s a risk we might stop getting along.” Read more »

Nadal To Appear At Halle Instead Of Queens

After the tournament director (repeatedly) expressed his irritation that Roger Federer had pulled out of Halle after Roland Garros this year despite having private jets and chefs organized for his conveniences, the Gerry Weber Open has sought out the reliable Rafael Nadal.

Nadal will receive £750,000 for his appearance in Germany. Read more »

Highlights Murray V Tsonga: Murray Shows Off

Murray Takes Queens Title

The finals match between Jo Wilfried Tsonga and Andy Murray was worth the wait. Tsonga opened with some huge beautiful grass court tennis and it took Murray a set and a half to really sink his teeth into the match. With the British crowd behind him, wanting to pump the injured Scot up for Wimbledon in another desperate bid for a Grand Slam, it was Murray who ultimately came out on top 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.

It is the first time in over since 1925 that a British citizen has won the Queens title multiple times. Read more »

Nadal Sent Home By Tsonga

As was the case last year, an exhausted Rafael Nadal, far from fresh after his Roland Garros win, has been sent packing back to Mallorca for some rest ahead of Wimbledon. Jo Wilfried Tsonga came out on top in their three set quarterfinal match winning 6-7, 6-4, 6-1.

Nadal, who has frequently complained of being tired this season, will get to go home for some much needed rest (much like Djokovic and Federer) after a difficult road to the top in Paris. Read more »

Nadal Slips But Stepanek’s There To Help

Just before Rafael Nadal dropped the second set, after attempting to serve for the match, in his match against Radek Stepanek he slipped running to retrieve a drop shot and landed flat on his backside under the net. In a show of phenomenal sportsmanship once the point was over Radek ran to Nadal’s side of the court and helped him up of his famous toosh. Read more »
