Nadal Walks Away From Players Council

Rafael Nadal has stepped down as vice president of the ATP players council in what can only be described as a good, yet surprising, move.

Nadal has been fighting for a two year ranking calender to help preserve the playing lifetime of tennis’ athletes and yet he seems to fail to find the support of president Roger Federer and other head honchos in the ATP. Despite having significant player support for reducing the work load on the players Nadal’s pleas continue to be ignored.

He drew a huge amount of media and fan attention to the issue by mildly airing his grievance with Federer in the press at the Australian Open. Now, with  a continued lack in progress, Nadal is sensibly walking away – gaining more attention by doing so because no-one saw it coming and Nadal so rarely rocks the boat. Read more »

Rafa Nadal Poses With Bar Refaeli For Sports Illustrated

I’m sure some of Rafa’s fans are going to rip me apart for the comments I’m about to make but I can’t hold back. When I saw these photos yesterday I was laughing out loud. They’re awkward and lacking in any chemistry and real feel between two very beautiful people. I’m a little surprised a professional model like Bar couldn’t create some heat between her and Rafa even if he can be horribly awkward.

The black silky boxers and the Playboy-esque shooting is just laughable. Why Nadal participated in some of the shots is beyond me. Read more »

Andy Murray was hoping to try and change the statistic that 26 of the last 27 Grand Slams have been won by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic, but it was not to be. The strange almost five hour match was won, eventually, by Novak 6-3, 3-6, 6-7, 6-1, 7-5. Defending champion Novak will now face Rafa for the title.

In his quarterfinal Novak had been clutching at his hamstring and struggling to breathe but initially looked to be OK, but not at his best, in his match against Murray. Despite an early break Murray stayed unusually positive even after Djokovic took the first set despite increasingly struggling to breathe. Read more »
