>Federer Struggles Against Wawrinka
>
Stanislas Wawrinka has given Roger Federer a run for his money in the quarterfinals in Stockholm having been a set and a break ahead of the former world number 1. Federer found, as he often does, a way out of trouble as Wawrinka battled to hold of his countryman’s push to change the momentum. Federer eventually won 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The win was Federer’s 50th win of the season.
“It was very close obviously. The score was 6-2, 2-0, which is a clear indication that you’re in trouble. I found a way to come back just in time. I was happy to be able to come through this time. I think the match against Murray helped me today.”
Federer also spoke to the media about hitting with former great Stefan Edberg. “It was a big moment for me. I’d never hit with him before. He’s the last hero that I hadn’t played with before. It was nice talking to him in the locker room yesterday. We started talking about hitting a few balls. He was in a suit and I didn’t even know if he had his gear or not.”
In other news, Robin Soderling’s early loss meant that he fell just shy of qualifying for the year end Masters at this stage. The good news for the Swede is that he is still the next in line for qualifying.
